*For Your Information- Medallion Installation and Maintenance Guidelines*

Medallions should be cleaned before installation. The should be handled gently, as they are large and rather delicate pieces that can break if not handled correctly. All of our medallions come in one piece ready to install.

Our medallions could present minimum bowing due to storage in an upward position. Therefore, before installation these medallions should be laid on a flat surface for 24 hours with a little weight on top of them.

Either a mortar bed application or a thin-set application may be used to set the medallion depending on the surrounding tiles are installed and the thickness of the surrounding floor. Acrylic addmix is recommended for thinset and a 1/4" notch trowel. It is extremely important to install the medallion on a level surface so that no hollow spaces are left under the medallion.

You may install the medallion in the two following ways (whichever you're more comfortable with):
Mark the area where the medallion will go and mark the tiles that will surround it. Cut the tiles to follow the contour of the medallion and lightly sand the edges of the tile. Determine the thickness of the floor and install the medallion first, then the surrounding tiles and floor.
The second way is to install the floor, determine the area where the medallion will sit, cut out the area, and then install the medallion.
After the medallion is set on the floor, wait for a few days to seal it. Since the medallions we carry are made from natural stone, they must be sealed to protect from staining and to add durability to the medallion. No traffic should be allowed on the medallion for two days after installation.
To maintain your medallion in good condition you should dust-mop it frequently and seal it approximately every two years. Clean it prefferably with stone cleaners, clear dish soap and warm water, or with a non-acidic cleaner such as Simple Green. Never use vinegar, lemon juice, or any abrasive and acidic cleaner.
